All pedigree cats, even the very popular breeds like Persians , Ragdolls and Maine Coons can seem expensive. You can expect to pay from  €600 for a pedigree Persian for example.

The Bengal is still a rare breed and is highly sought after.  Prices of up to €2900 are seen in France for a Bengal kitten, but the usual price ranges from €1000 to €2500. The price depends on the quality of the kitten. All Bengals are beautiful of course, but as in any breed, some have more desirable traits than others. There are three categories for the pricing of a pedigree kitten of any breed . These are :  1.show quality (  can be  shown and bred)   2.  breeding quality ( can also be shown) , and  3. pet quality ( not for showing or breeding). Naturally, a Bengal of any quality can be kept purely as a pet but the quality determines the price.

1. Show quality kittens meet all the requirements of the breed standard strongly and will also have all or most of the features that are desirable as shown in the breed standard, such as a whited tummy and whisker pads, large 2 colour rosettes, strong contrast between ground colour and markings and the clearest of coats.  Of course , any show quality cat can be bred as well as shown , but they can equally be kept as a companion only. If it is decided by the owner to sterilise the cat , it can still be shown in ALTERS classes and compete for championship titles.

Guide price €1800 - 2200

2. Breeding quality kittens meet the breed standard  very well and  may have some  but not most of the additional desirable features mentioned in the breed standard. Breeding quality cats contribute to the development of the breed .  The cat may have an excellent pedigree and come from a long line of champoins and is therefore carrying valuable genes.  They can also be shown at cat shows . It is up to the owner to decide whether to breed from the cat or not, of course.

Guide price €1400 – €1800

Pet quality kittens . Bengals that meet the breed standard, but they do not have additional desirable features or occasionally there is a small fault such as a distinct white spot somewhere on the body.    Pet Quality cats are not for breeding or showing. Breeders may choose to sterilise pet quality cats before sale.

Guide price €1000 – €1400

Through study and knowledge of kitten development, the breed standard and through entering shows and competitions. Breeders must understand the breed and the latest developments. There is close observation of the kittens when they are born because kittens change.
A plain looking kitten at birth may develop into a show quality cat in the weeks that follow.  Another factor is that the white tummy is very desirable, but a breeder knows that all Bengal kittens are born with white tummies but some  lose it by the 6th week.  Also the rosettes, for  another example, may not fully develop for some weeks.
Please note...the whited tummy must also be spotted.  Please see the full breed standard of LOOF at www.loof.assoc.fr.

Not at all, they do not require special diets or haute cuisine. A good quality dry diet is a good idea. Dry food is much more economical than wet food and is more hygienic. It is also better for the cat’s teeth. Cats on dry diets need plenty of water to drink but that’s all.

Bengals are not fussy eaters and don’t eat huge amounts. The daily recommended amount to feed will be given on the cat food pack. Dry diet food can be left for the cat to free feed all day.

All house cats need litter trays. A wood based litter is highly recommended. This too can be bought in bulk and is economical. You can spend as little or as much as you like on the litter box but the most important thing is that the litter tray is big enough for the adult cat to use. So buying a big litter tray is good advice. Bengals are excellent litter tray users

Yes… very. Your Bengal need never set a paw outside the house and it is recommended by LOOF that they live indoors. All cats are in danger if let outside the home. As long as they have plenty of love and attention in the home and a few toys they will be very happy. If you never let it outside from the word go, it will show small interest in going outside.

No. Bengals are short haired and have an exquisite coat which requires little or no extra grooming though they’ll appreciate a couple of minutes gentle brushing once in a while. They hardly shed any hair. Their claws can be clipped as needed and is the same as for any other cat. All cats appreciate a scratching post for their claws.

He or she will be vaccinated against the major infectious diseases with a vaccine such as TRiCat. It protects against Calcivirose, Typhus and Pan Leucopenie, Rhinotracheitis and Feline Herpes. The cost of these vaccines is included in the kitten price.

There is no requirement in Indre to vaccinate against rabies but this can be arranged if you live in an area where a rabies vaccination is required, for an additional fee.

An additional vaccine against Leucose Feline is recommended and this too can be arranged.

Your kitten will be micro chipped and registered with the agency for animal identification in France, SIEV. The microchip is painless and easy to insert. It is a legal requirement in France to identify and record all cats sold in France with SIEV. The price is included in the price of the kitten.

You do not need a pet passport for Metropolitan France or Continental Europe. If you are overseas, a pet passport will be needed. This can be obtained at additional cost. A rabies vaccination will usually be required for a Pet Passport also.

All buyers receive a contract specifying various conditions depending on the quality of the kitten sold and other factors. This is standard practise for good breeders. An example of a Contract of Sale here.

Yes. LOOF is the Livre Officiel des Origines de Felines. Our kittens will be registered with LOOF. If you require a TICA registration this can be arranged but all pedigree cats born in France (after 1999) must be registered with LOOF first. Only the breeder can register the cat for its pedigree.

Yes, absolutely. In fact if you do not intend to breed from your show/breed quality cat it is preferable to sterilise the cat at around 6 months of age.

Sterilised cats are just as happy and loving as their ‘entire’ brothers and sisters.

As a precaution we worm and treat for external parasites even though it is almost 100% sure they will not have any in the first place.

Kittens and parents are brought up indoors in a controlled hygienic environment. They eat a dry food diet so there is little chance of developing any parasite.

It is best practise for several reasons.  The kitttens need the support and care of their mother for the first weeks of life for their development and socialisation.  The breeder also needs to watch the development of the kittens very cosely to determine their quailty and to handle and nuture the kittens for human contact. Kittens need the company of their litter mates also to play and interact.  Finally but just as importantly, vaccines cannot be given to very young kittens. Vaccines for kittens (primo vaccination) are given in two parts up to 2 weeks in between.

Note. The law in France states that kittens may not be released to new homes until they are at least 8 weeks old.
